Fleet Week - Best Week of the Year

(Catch up posts)

Fleet Week has always been a true favorite of mine.   Starting Thursday afternoon, when everyone is sitting at their desks in the financial district and you hear that first rumble of the jets.  People jump up and down and run to the windows exclaiming "They're Here!! They're Here!!".  Something about the Blue Angels that brings out the 8 year old kid in all of us.  It is pure joy, and that joy carries over into how we all interact with each other for the 4 full days of Fleet Week.  It's magic.  Everyone is happy.  The weather is ALWAYS perfect, even when the weather report predicts otherwise.  The day is spent with friends, on roof decks, enjoying the sun, a cocktail and the magic of 6 jets flying 18 inches apart while nose diving into the bay.

Fleet Week magic is what lead Jesse and me to each other.  We fell in love over Top Gun quotes.  Our first anniversary was spent seeing Van Morrison the day before the Jets flew.   We LOVE this week.

Every year I have thrown a Fleet Week brunch.  We all joke that we don't quite know why I am the one that ended up with a brunch when I don't have a roof deck and my place is SO small.  But I do, it's a tradition, and one everyone seems to thoroughly enjoy.

Three years ago, I started throwing the brunches with Jesse and this year, our 7th year, will very likely be our last.  We will attend Fleet Week every year no matter what, but the legacy of the 400 Avila Street Fleet Week Brunch will retire on October 6th 2012.  It's been a good run.  And our final act did NOT disappoint.  We estimate we had close to 65 people in our 600 sq ft condo (not including kids).  The weather was PERFECT.  We even discovered that we have a roof deck just PERFECT for watching the jets.   People were in PERFECT spirits and almost every single one of our friends was in town and in attendance.  It was a magical day.

Celebrating 3 years together!

New buddies

Our Fleet Week parties are evolving...used to be singles...then marrieds...now kiddies!

Rager

Had to remove the coffee table to allow for more space..

Absolutely perfect day

Alison and Quinn (and Jared!) up from the Peninsula!

The day the WHOLE city comes out to play

Future Fleet Weeker

Quinn liked the jets.  But mostly she liked Duggly the best.
