Batkid
Today was a great day to be a San Franciscan. After months worth of planning and weeks worth of viral publicity, (what felt like) the entire city came together to create the impossible for a 5 year old leukemia survivor. His wish was to be Batman, and Make-a-Wish was able to turn San Francisco into Gotham City, allowing Miles to be the superhero he'd always dreamed of being. Jesse and I met up with buddies down at City Hall for the final piece of the wish - to watch Mayor Lee give Miles the keys to the city, in gratitude for his heroism and efforts to save the city. Thousands and thousands of people were there, cheering the little guy on. I kept thinking all day how overwhelming that must be to be the parents - how you even make sense of that many people coming out to root on your kid. The kindness of strangers and the sense of community demonstrated today all over SF was pretty infectious. The story got so big that it made national news and even the President tweeted about the remarkable event. Make a Wish holds such a special place in Jesse's heart as they were the recipients of a wish when Eric was about the same age as Miles. It was a special day to live in our city. A special moment with my husband. It was just special.
