Weekend at the Beach

My Nana used to tell me that her dad referred to Santa Cruz as Fairyland.   They migrated out to California from Nebraska and when they got to Santa Cruz, they thought they'd died and gone to heaven.  The magic of this little town is not lost on me, having spent so many weekends of my own upbringing down at the beach.   And what fun to continue the tradition and love of this town with Cooper.

We spent the weekend with friends, BBQing, lazing in the backyard, walking along the cliffs.   We also stopped by Boonie's house, one of my nana's oldest and dearest friends.  It felt special to be able to introduce her to Cooper - almost a proxy of sorts for Nana.   She's 92 and a real spitfire and it always makes me feel closer to nana when we see her.  I still feel a little pang of sadness when I'm down there but happy and thankful that we still have a place to call home at the beach.

Cooper dipped his toes in the surf for the first of what will likely be millions of times.   Visions of boogie boards, bikes, sand toys and days at the beach loom in our future and it makes me so happy.
